Bacha Khan University Session in Charsadda, Peshawar

April 27, 2016

Going to Bacha Khan University on the 27th of April was a revelation in many ways. As soon as we stepped on the campus, our team was surprised to the student populated corridors we walked through to get to the auditorium. This was because after the harrowing tragedy that has taken place in the form of a terrorist attach in January, some of us believed that perhaps the fear mongers had succeeded in deterring students of pursuing knowledge. But how wrong were we! Every man, woman and student we spoke to is a testimony to what it really means to live courageously. Throughout our session we heard stories that honored the living and dead alike, all the whilst creating a space where one could express without the fear of persecution. Our guest speaker Shahida Shad, shared story of how she started out as a young child wanting to create positive social change and how she overcame her obstacles to now become the activist she is. At the end of it all we felt that it was us who was truly transformed, for we understood how certain freedoms can never be taken for granted, and always need to be protected – be it in virtual or physical spaces.
